What Are Seborrheic Keratoses?

Seborrheic keratoses are noncancerous growths that become more common with age. They can vary in color and texture and sometimes resemble warts, moles, or skin cancer.

How Is It Evaluated?

Each lesion should be assessed before removal, especially if it is new, rapidly changing, irregular, bleeding, or unusually dark.

What Treatment Options Are Available?

Bothersome benign lesions may be treated with electrodesiccation, curettage, shave removal, or another appropriate method. Cosmetic removal may not be insurance eligible.

Can seborrheic keratoses become cancer?

They are benign and do not transform into skin cancer, but a cancer can resemble one. Changing or atypical lesions should be evaluated rather than assumed benign.
